Durban has been selected to host the 21st
International AIDS Conference from 18 to 22 July 2016 (AIDS 2016). The
International AIDS Conference is the largest conference on any global
health or development issue. First convened during the peak of the AIDS
epidemic in 1985, the conference continues to provide a unique forum for
the intersection of science and advocacy, and an opportunity to
strengthen policies and programmes to ensure an evidence-based response
to the epidemic.
The International AIDS Conference is the largest international
meeting on a single health issue, where every two years between 15,000 –
22,000 participants representing all stakeholders in the global
response to HIV meet to assess progress and identify future priorities.
With more than 1,500 international journalists expected to attend, the
conference is the single most widely-covered HIV event in the world.
Founded in 1988, the International AIDS Society (IAS) is the
world’s largest association of HIV professionals, with members from more
than 180 countries. IAS members work on all fronts of the global
response to AIDS, and include researchers, clinicians, policy and
programme planners and public health and community practitioners on the
frontlines of the epidemic. The International AIDS Society (IAS) will
organize AIDS 2016 in collaboration with international and local
partners.

Details of Learnership:
The ICT Learnership will be based in Durban, South Africa. He/she
will report to the Head of Local Office based in Durban, and will work
very closely with the ICT team based in Geneva. The Learnership is
full-time and will last one month from 27 June 2016 to 27 July 2016.
Purpose of the Learnership:
In close collaboration with the ICT team, the internship will
consist of participating in the ICT onsite Project in interacting with
the different project constituents and its suppliers.
Main Responsibilities:
- Establish mutual trust with the ICT subcontractor to ensure the timeline is followed and tasks are done according to the plan;
- Support the ICT team in the daily communication with the ICT suppliers;
- Collect ICT needs from staff and consultants;
- Support end users in their day to day tasks;
- Install and maintain the Internet Café during the conference with the collaboration of volunteers;
- Hosting and Moderating some webinars performed using Cisco Webex platform.
Academic Qualifications:
- Currently studying or recently graduated in Information Technology (BS).
Experience (previous learnerships):
- IT Systems / Users Helpdesk experience;
- First experience working in an Internet Café would be an asset;
- First exposure to a large event would be an asset.
Skills/Competencies:
- Acquaintance with Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2;
- Ability to troubleshoot Microsoft office suite 2010/2016;
- Proficiency with DNS, DHCP, Exchange 2010, Active Directory technologies;
- Knowledge of videoconference tools such Cisco Webex would be a plus;
- Proficiency with software installation, configuration, troubleshooting.
Languages:
- Excellent written and oral English language communication skills;
- Knowledge of other South African languages is a plus.
