1.Senior Technical Advisor – Nursing:

Maternity & Newborn Hospital Project
The story
Comprehensive Community Based Rehabilitation in Tanzania (CCBRT) is Tanzania’s largest local provider of disability and rehabilitation services in the country. We’re committed to not only empowering people with disabilities and their families, improving their
quality of life, and ensuring access to medical and rehabilitative treatment, but crucially, preventing disabilities wherever possible. This has led us to engage in extensive maternal and newborn healthcare activities with a focus on early detection. The construction of our ambitious CCBRT Maternity & Newborn Hospital (MH) is currently underway, with doors set to open in early 2018.
Do you have what it takes to take on full strategic and operational planning for nursing services at the new MH? Will you ensure that nursing at CCBRT’s new 200-bed Maternity & Newborn Hospital can deliver high-quality, respectful and safe medical care to high-risk and emergency mother and newborn cases in Dar es Salaam? As Senior Technical Advisor, you will be at the forefront of this ambitious project to change the face of maternity and newborn care in Tanzania.
The role
As our Senior Technical Advisor for Nursing, you will define models of nursing care and practice for each clinical department within the new MH, instigation policies, processes and SOPs. In the run up to go-live, you will develop and implement mandatory pre-employment induction training and general training programmes for nurses and provide specialist advice, supervision and mentoring to staff. Planning is key to our preparedness for opening, and you will focus on defining numbers and types of staff needed (including active participation in the recruitment process), supporting equipment and supplies planning and develop and implement a transition plan for nursing around the
hospital’s opening. The development of patient medical record content and templates for all clinical services and functions will also require your input. You will also keep an eye on the wider plan, supporting overall MH development, planning and implementation for other clinical services, quality and safety and referral processes.
As the go-to expertise, you will be the first port of call for the MH senior leadership team on all matters related to nursing. Your capacity for leadership and motivation will be paramount as you lead the MH nursing department’s high performance, morale and implementation of team activities. Other key responsibilities include the provision of inputs in defining the processes and patient flows through the hospital from all ports and entry and exit. You’ll coordinate and improve relationship management with training partners like universities or colleges to help the MH secure the best nursing talent. Upon opening, you will monitor quality standards across all areas of nursing care and take corrective action where required.
The candidate
  • A Bsc Nursing qualification holder with knowledge of Emergency Obstetric Care, Paediatric Nursing, Theatre Nursing or Women’s Health Care; with a Master’s degree in Nursing, Management or other related field
  • Will have a minimum 10 years working experience (including in labour wards) and at least 5 years in a management position
