Senior Statistician

The East African Community is a regional intergovernmental organisation comprising the Republic of Burundi, the Republic of Kenya, the Republic of Rwanda, the United Republic of Tanzania, and the Republic of Uganda with its Headquarters in Arusha, Tanzania.
The EAC mission is to widen and deepen economic, political, social and cultural integration to improve the quality of life of the people of East Africa through increased competitiveness, value added production, trade and investments.
This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated and result-driven professional who is a citizen of East African Community Partner States (Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda) to apply for the following position tenable at East African Community - Secretariat:

Organ / Institution: The Secretariat

Duty Station: Arusha, Tanzania

Job Grade: P2

Job reports to: Director, Planning

Job Purpose:

To collect, analyse and compile all statistical data required for strategic planning, management and monitoring of programmes for the development of the Community.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Contribute to the development of a regional statistical system to generate relevant statistics required for decision making;
2. Responsible for exchange vital statistics with other regional and international organizations;
3. Responsible for the development, production and interpretation of all statistical reports as required;
4. Provide an input into and manage the budget for the Statistics Section;
5. Coordinate regional workshops, seminars and conferences relevant to the Statistics Section/EAC;
6. Attend relevant regional and international conferences, workshops, and seminars relevant to the Statistics Section EAC;
7. Liaise with technical institutions, organizations and individuals engaged in collecting information, conduct studies or research related to management information systems and databases;
8. Administer the EAC Statistics database and monitoring mechanism for implementation of the Council decisions;
9. Advise on the implementation of studies;
10. Assist other EAC Offices and organs to identify their data needs/requirements; and
11. Prepare Progress and Annual Reports.

Qualifications and Experience:

Master of Arts Degree or Master of Science Degree in Statistics or equivalent from a recognised University/Institution.
8 years relevant experience with 3 at Senior level.

Analytical skills, statistical skills, numeracy, presentation skills, research skills, international skills, Computer skills and analytical skills.

Education Qualifications and Relevant Working Experience:

Education Qualifications:
All candidates applying must have qualifications that are recognized by the relevant national accreditation body in their respective Partner State. This condition is applicable for locally and internationally attained
qualifications.
All professions that require registration with the specific professional bodies will be expected to do so in compliance with the requirements of their respective Partner States.
Relevant Work Experience:
Internship, training and apprenticeship will not be considered as relevant work experience.

Eligibility:

Applicants from all five (5) Partner States are eligible to apply for this position.

Terms and Conditions of Service:

The above position is tenable for a contract of five (5) years renewable once and is subject to the application of the EAC Quota System.
