Description
ENVIRONMENTAL OFFICER
Acacia Mining seeks to employ an Environmental Officer based at Buzwagi Mine. This role reports to the Environmental Section Leader and the role holder will be accountable to ensure regulatory compliance and contribute to the development and implementation of best practice environmental programs and improvements. The incumbent will provide environmental data, information and advice to enable operations
personnel to maximize productivity whilst minimizing environmental impact.
This is a permanent role, with the work roster being six weeks on and three weeks off.
CORE ACCOUNTABILITIES
• Ensure safe work practices by attending compulsory safety courses and meetings, use of required PPE, incident/accident reporting and ensuring total adherence to all Safety, Occupational Health and Environmental Policies, as well as other policies, procedures and guidelines.
• Maintain and update the Environmental Database with accurate and relevant content.
• Ensure that Environmental Policies and Procedures are reviewed, updated and improved on.
• Ensure that Environmental processes are implemented effectively, e.g. Waste & Water Management, Rehabilitation and Environmental Awareness.
• Compile accurate and timely daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and ad hoc sampling information.
• Assist with the preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual Environmental/ Technical Reports, including statutory reporting.
• Maintain the Chemicals Inventory.
• Assist with incident/ accident investigation as required.
• Provide advice in terms of:
o Incident Management
o Air Management
o Flora and Fauna
o Groundwater and Surface Water Management
o Waste, Water & Chemicals Management
o Environmental Culture
o Community Awareness
o Rehabilitation and Closure
• Conduct Environmental Awareness Training Sessions
• Assist with Environmental Projects, ensuring that they are completed on schedule and in budget.
ROLE REQUIREMENTS
Qualification Requirements:
• Bachelor of Science Degree in Environmental or equivalent.
Experience Requirements:
• At least 2 years’ experience in an Environmental role
Skills / Knowledge Requirements:
• Mine Water Management
• Atmospheric Science
• Environmental Science/ Systems
• Waste Management
• Advanced computer skills – MS Office; GIS systems etc.
• Data and trend analysis
• Environmental Monitoring
• Report Writing
• Communication skills, written and verbal in English
