Application Deadline: 25 Sep 2016
Tech Project Manager POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Let’s start with a few questions…
1. Do you love to take complex digital ideas, pull resources together, and turn those ideas into an amazing innovative product?
2. Is “Execution” your middle name?
3. Are you flexible, open to change, and ready/willing/able to manage lots of moving parts?
4. Do you want to work with a company that is on the cutting-edge of digital innovation in East Africa? If the answer to all these questions is “yes!” then let’s talk.
Our company is looking for a Tech Project Manager to turn the BIG ideas and projects of our founders into a reality. ?
About The Job
? This position reports to the Head of Operations, and will work closely with the CTO, Technology Team and Projects Support team.
? You will be responsible for the execution of one or more simultaneous projects in accordance with a valid, executed contract, per the company’s policies and procedures.
? You will collaborate with the CTO, lead architect, developers, business analysts and other company executives in order to determine the software's technical direction, system design and implementation plan.
? You will manage day-to-day activities of the software team to ensure each project remains on schedule and on budget.
? You will create, maintain and track project plans and schedules, cost estimates and problem logs throughout the life of the project using daPulse and any other tools that can make our lives easier.
? You will provide routine status reports to clients and management.
? You will offer leadership, guidance and motivation to developers and programmers while resolving internal conflicts.?
Our Ideal Candidate:
? Is experienced. You’ve been a full-time project manager. You’re a seasoned professional. You have a tried and true system for successfully delivering on time, within budget, and within scope.
? Is tech savvy. Since you will be project managing the development team and the latest and greatest digital projects of East Africa, you will need to know a thing or two about software, web and application development. You can write business requirements and documentation, establish milestones and timelines, anticipate issues, manage bug fixing and testing, understand code releases cycles and versioning, all while ensuring that the project is completed on time and within budget, and that all deliverables are of the highest quality. Programming knowledge is a plus!
? Is a pro with technical methodologies. We are implementing Agile methodologies to manage our projects such as Kanban, Scrum, Scrumban and Extreme Programming. You know what we mean by a Scrum Board and can play the role of Scrum Master as needed (no this is not a Harry Potter reference).
? Is an action-oriented, problem-solver with a sense of urgency. You’re analytical, you ask great questions, know how to research, analyze, synthesize, and implement solutions that turn ideas into something tangible. And, since we only have 24 hours in a day, you do this with efficiency and urgency.
? Is a strategic planner that gets stuff done. You can develop and manage multiple projects, set priorities, pull together the resources (and people) you need, and execute. You hold yourself and the team accountable to get the job done and you regularly communicate updates and metrics along the way. And, if you get stuck, you speak up.
? Thrives in the face of challenge. You will have the opportunity to work on some big, exciting, cutting-edge projects - none of which will be easy. It may require extra hours or late nights but that’s what gets you energized - you enjoy completing a project on deadline and doing it well.
? Is a confident, motivating, team-oriented, people person. You won’t be able to do this all on your own. So let’s face it, in order to get other people to execute on your projects, you must be confident and be able to easily build relationships and credibility. You earn and give respect and embody trust so that you can steer the team in the right direction.
? Is self-motivated and highly organized. Once you’re confident about what you need to do, you can run with it without a lot of ongoing direction. Plus, to you, the details matter. For example, when all the books on your bookshelf are alphabetized or color coded… all is right with the world. Another example, you’ve already found the typos in this job posting. Experience with daPulse project management tool is a plus!
? Is great at communication. From status reporting to informal conversations with clients to manage expectations, you understand the technical details of the software product
lifecycle and can liaise between technical and non-technical stakeholders. Also, you love all things Google and can utilize extensions and apps effectively.
? Is a good fit. This may sound obvious, but we’re committed to our team “doing the work they love and loving the work they do”. We’re passionate about finding and leveraging our team’s strengths and Unique Abilities. Which means, if you go through our application process, you may feel like we’re putting you through the wringer. We just want to learn more about who you are and how you approach your work. This helps us all ensure we’re making the right decision.
Your Education
? B.A. or B.S. in a related field such as computer science, engineering, project management, business administration or equivalent education and experience.
Still Interested? If you’re still reading this and thinking, “this is my dream job”, then here’s how your friends might describe you…
? You are resilient and have a thick skin. You don’t get bothered by setbacks and you welcome a challenge. They actually push you to do better.
? You’re outgoing, personable, like to socialize and are fun to be around.
? You love feedback, especially when it’s constructive. You want to continually improve.
? You are determined, persistent and you make it all happen without stepping on any toes.
? You are a critical thinker that see angles others do not.
? You are resourceful.
? You are flexible and can live with uncertainty.
? You are highly detail-oriented, organized and have a knack for spotting things that are out of place.
? You can make decisions. You understand the facts, can critically evaluate them and make the call.
