EADD- II is an ambitious five-year program designed to transform the lives of 136,000 dairy farming families through a competitive and inclusive dairy value chain in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.

FUNCTION
The Assistant Business Development Advisor (ABDA) will support in providing timely and effective implementation of project activities and achievement of the business development goal of the project. S/he will be responsible for enhancing business development at the DIG and PO level. The job entails over 80% field based activities working closely with, dairy interest groups to enhance value-chain actors’ benefits; and leverage service delivery at each level of contact with both farmers and customers. This position may also involve close collaboration with farmers’ groups, input suppliers, large processors and development partners on the ground in order to implement appropriate business development interventions within the cluster.
ESSENTIAL CHARACTER TRAITS:
For successful execution of the job duties, the ABDA should be proactive, able to generate innovative solutions, a team player and have good interpersonal skills (both written and oral).
RESPONSIBILITIES and DELIVERABLES
(including approximate percentage effort)
A. Assist in supporting establishment of business development for the project cluster, finding sustainable ways to plan and operationalize them for the benefits of the Producer organizations (POs). 10%
i. Support and assist the SBDA in the implementation of strategic plans for the cluster POs, understanding holistically the dairy farming landscape and the key drivers of growth.
ii. Identification of potential priority areas of investment and draft business plans that will address the dairy value chain for the cluster and its POs.
iii. Support in credit acquisition processes, and management – so that farmers have access to productive assets
iv. Manage business MIS set up
B. Provide technical support to the Business development of assigned POs. 15%
i. Ensure the delivery of technical training packages is of high quality, is appropriate to the local context, and is effectively reaching participants. (individual farmers, farmers’ cooperatives, formal and informal milk handlers; small to large scale milk processors; and input suppliers).
ii. Address governance issues at hubs (PO audits, AGMs) in order to ensure they are business focused, with strong leadership, management, and succession systems, in an environment of transparency and ownership.
iii. Working with SBDA and cluster team, support plans for input suppliers to work as entrepreneurs, helping them adapt new productivity enhancing technologies.
C. Capacity building among the Dairy Interest Groups (DIGs) on business acumen 5%
i. Ensure the roll out of the module of Business and Saving & Credit training to DIGs and dairy farmers, by POs and Community Agrovets Entrepreneurs.
ii. Support CAVEs in business entrepreneurial development
iii. Support capacity building programs/mentorships to POs on financial literacy for hub staffs, and DIGs
D. Review framework for Business Development Service (BDS) market diagnostic. 5%
Support review of the Framework for BDS market diagnostic against Baseline, evaluating the need for services and level of services currently available at the cluster.
E. Ensure adherence to budget limitations. 5%
Track annual cluster business budgets in place and ensure adherence to the budget limitations.
F. Prepare consolidated business plans and progress reports on the status for business activities in the project for internal and external reporting. 5%
i. Assist in timely execution of the monthly and annual plans; and delivery on all targets of the business plans
ii. Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual business performance reports in a timely manner
G. Disseminate and support cluster-level adaptation and use of standard templates and tools for key project deliverables. 5%
Standardize template for POs, business plans rolled out for simplified monthly reporting, and utilized consistently.
H. Support the collection of effective market information that provide price, quality, quantity and timely information. 10%
Collect market information that provides price, quality, quantity and timely information to farmers and other key stakeholders developed.
I. Conduct Bench marking and ensure that best practices gathered are shared into the project across the project region. 10%
Share case studies of successes and/or failures and lessons learned, and partner with evaluators and others to develop review studies for external dissemination. Participate in learning forums at cluster level created, and best practices documented and shared.

Required Experience
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelors’ Degree or equivalent in the fields of Agriculture Economics, Business Administration, Rural Development, Enterprise Development or other related field,
One (1) years field and technical experience with agribusiness development in commercial sector, value chain competitiveness, or agribusiness development.
Experience in building public/private partnerships, preferably in the dairy sector
Strong implementation skills.
Experience working with farmer group programs.
Preferred Requirements:
Experience in the commercial sector with skills to develop and evaluate investment opportunities and promote such opportunities to financial institutions.
Strong consumer marketing, financial analysis and management skills.
Experience in supporting and monitoring field based programs in the country.
Proven experience in building the capacity of partner institutions to document and disseminate industry information, manage knowledge, measure progress and plan and advocate within the industry
Excellent command of Report writing, analysis and presentation skills using Word, Excel and PowerPoint
Track record of building strong client and stakeholder relationships;
