Experience: Underground and open pit mining environment and knowledge of geotechnical data
collection and analysis techniques and ground support systems

Purpose of the Role:
The purpose of this role is to provide technical input to support the geotechnical framework component for managing geotechnical risks arising from underground mining activities to acceptable levels. In this role you will ensure quality geotechnical data collection, analysis and interpretation as well as ensure ground support mitigations are undertaken on an ongoing basis using the available systems and resources

Main or Key
Accountabilities:
The role holder has the following accountabilities and authorities:

1. Underground geotechnical data collection

Context: A thorough understanding of the data collection requirements for the geotechnical aspects of surface and underground operations, with an ability to process this information to make assessments of future ground conditions.

Accountability: You are accountable for the timely collection of underground geotechnical data from various sources and ensuring that collected data meets the required quality standards. You will be expected to ensure data collection for investigating ground conditions and underground workings is current.

2. Geotechnica l modelling
Context: Sound and robust geotechnical models of ground conditions and underground workings form the basis for defining ground support regimes for safe access of personnel and equipment, as well as minimizing ore loss and dilution and improving production efficiencies in underground mining.
Accountability: You are accountable for the timely validation, analysis and interpretation of all geotechnical data and for generating, reconciling and updating of 30 geotechnical models of ground conditions for the underground mining areas.

3. Ground support and fall of gro und risk mitigation
Context: As poor ground conditions and presence of underground workings below working benches impact negatively on personnel and equipment safety, ore loss and dilution and production efficiencies, it is essential that mitigating measures are put in place to manage these risks to within acceptable levels.
Accountability: You are accountable for assessing the risk posed by poor ground conditions and presence of underground workings to the working levels and for generating and timely communication of ground support requirements and safe access controls in the affected areas. You are also accountable for monitoring the implementation of the mitigation

4. Fall of ground risk awareness
Context:
Having a well-informed workforce with respect to risks arising from underground mining is a fundamental requirement for effective fall of ground management. Underground inductions are essential tools for ensuring that exposed personnel are made aware of the risks and how they can enhance their safety while working in these areas.
Accountability: You are accountable for reviewing how relevant and up to date the material used in the fall of ground inductions are and for timely communicating of identified fall of ground hazards.

5. Training of Underground Geotechnical Personnel
Context: Having a well-trained support staff is crucially important for effective geotechnical data collection and monitoring of compliance to ground support and fall of ground management standards. Training provides an opportunity to close the identified gaps in support personnel and ensure support staff utilization is maximized by reducing work inefficiencies.

Accountability: You are accountable for assessing the skills gap of subordinates (geotechnical engineers and support technicians) with regard to underground geotechnical functions and for designing and implementing appropriate training programs to close the identified skills gaps in a timely manner.

General

Additional Requirements: - Solid experience in Microsoft Office products - specifically Excel and Word.
Ability to maintain composure under stressful situations and conflicting priorities while providing leadership and direction.
- Demonstrated leadership ability at a remote site and/or developing country.
Able to form and maintain a professional relationship between client and contractors.
- Very good analytical, planning and prioritizing skills combined with the ability to utilize the knowledge gained.
- The successful candidate should be innovative, have a strong desire to succeed and a demonstrated commitment to safety, quality and teamwork.
- Superior written and verbal skills (English} as well as excellent organizational and interpersonal skills are required.
Able to obtain and hold a Tanzanian Driver's license.
