BACKGROUND
The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture invites applications for a laboratory technician. This position is required to support the
banana project that will be based at the IITA Office at the Nelson Mandela Africa Institute of Science and Technology in Kijenge , Arusha
RESPONSIBILITIES
i. Sampling suckers and shoot tips of banana plants
ii. In vitro multiplications and generation of banana plants
iii. Embryo rescue and germination of embryo/seeds
iv. Transplant in vitro plants into the nursery and maintain the nursery
v. Process imported plant material
vi. Be response for the maintenances of lab equipment
vii. Stock control by tracking the use of the lab consumables and suppliers
viii. Assist the field assistant in planting in vitro plants
ix. Report findings orally and writing
x. Other specifications duties assigned by the banana manager
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCED
• The candidate should have BSC IN MOLECURA BIOLOGY / BIOTECHNOLOGY/ Agriculture or related field
• Preferably work experienced in agriculture science or other research environment
• Familiar with general laboratory working procedures
• Flexibility reliability honest and independence
• Strong verbal and written communications skills in both English and Kiswahili
• Ability to work in the mulct –cultural environment
• The ability to work independently and as a team member
