The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is an impartial, neutral and independent organisation with the exclusively humanitarian mission to protect the lives and dignity of victims of war and internal violence and to provide them with assistance. It also endeavours to prevent suffering by promoting and strengthening International Humanitarian Law and universal humanitarian principles.The ICRC’s Regional Delegation in Nairobi co-ordinates the institution’s humanitarian activities in Kenya, Tanzania and Djibouti. It also runs regional specialist units that provide support and expertise to the ICRC’s delegations in East Africa, the Great Lakes region and the Horn of Africa.
The ICRC office in Dar es Salaam is seeking for an experienced & highly motivated individual to fill the position of;
PROTECTION FIELD OFFICER – TANZANIA (KIBONDO) (Position open to Tanzanian residents only)
JOB DESCRIPTION:**
– Contributes to the collection of information and regular analysis related to protection issues;
• Takes part in interviews with victims or direct witnesses;
• Contributes to the global analysis of the humanitarian and security situation;
• Writes reports and other briefings;
• Takes part in detention visits;
• Translate to and from English for the Delegate when speaking with detainees;
• Follows-up on individual cases with protection concerns;
• Prepares and organizes the transfer of children in eventual cross-border family reunifications;
• Develops and maintains a network of relevant interlocutors;
• Participates in meetings with different protection actors.
REQUIREMENTS:
• Minimum University degree;
• 4 years’ experience in a similar function preferably within an international organization;
• •Technical capacities on protection of the civilian population in relation to violations of International Humanitarian Law / Human Rights Law;
• Technical capacities on tracing activities and coordination with other organizations;
• Ability to represent the institution & networking;
• Swahili and Kirundi or equivalent oral and written skills;
• Excellent oral and written English, knowledge of French is an added value;
• Computer literate (word, excel, PowerPoint, internet).
