CONSULTANCY FOR CITIZENS’ VOICE AND PARTICIPATION POSITION
Duties and Responsibilities
Working under the overall guidance and direct supervision of the UNDP Community Dialogue Specialist the consult will undertake the following:
Undertake a desk review of previous project reports, updated analysis and assessments.
Conduct consultations as necessary with key stakeholders.
Develop a project document.
Competencies
Ability to work under minimum supervision to meet short deadlines;
Commitment and drive to achieve challenging goals, and problem solving attitude;
A team player with strong inter-personal skills and the ability to deal with multiple teams located in multiple institutions;
Ability to identify client needs and deliver them promptly and accurately.
Good communication and presentation skills;
Excellent interpersonal skills; and
Ability to operate and deliver in a complex and multicultural environment.
Required Skills and Experience
Academic Qualifications:
Master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g. Peace and Conflict Studies, International Relations, Political Sciences, etc.)
Experience:
At least 7 years of progressively responsible experience in international development including experience with citizens’ voice, participation/accountability/empowerment;
Demonstrated experience in designing project documents on citizens’ voice, participation/accountability/empowerment;
Knowledge of voice and accountability issues, including the measurement and monitoring of participation and empowerment (qualitative and quantitative dimensions);
Experience and knowledge of participatory approaches to project design;
Thorough knowledge
and demonstrated extensive experience in citizens’ voice, participation/accountability/empowerment;
Knowledge and demonstrated experience on conflict prevention and peacebuilding tools and programming;
Demonstrated experience in mainstreaming gender and human rights in projects;
Good knowledge and understanding of the UN, its values, priority goals and systems and procedures will be a definite asset.
Work experience in East Africa will be a definite asset.
Language requirements:
A high level of written and spoken English is essential;
Knowledge of Kiswahili an asset.
