ESAMI seeks the services of a suitably qualified person to fill the post of Assistant Librarian Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania
Job Purpose
Reporting to the Librarian, the Assistant Librarian shall provide technical support services for the day to day running of the
Library and Documentation center
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Data entry into the online catalogue;
2. Sorting material according to classification or catalogue numbers and arranging materials for shelving and other processes;
3. Handling circulation desk operations including check in/out of materials;
4. Creating and maintaining databases
5. Developing, processing and managing collections including delivery and collection of materials to and from faculty offices;
6. Updating library records;
7. Communicating library policies and procedures;
8. Monitoring the use of library facilities by users;
9. Attending to Library users appropriately;
10. Any other duties as may be assigned.
Position Requirements
A degree holder in Library studies and Information Technology or equivalent qualification with five (5) years relevant experience competence and Skills
• Ability to use technology in enhancing the overall effectiveness of the Library, including web based methods of improving technological access to information
• Good overall knowledge of archiving and filing information as well as maintaining databases and reference information
• Capable of evaluating resources and finding the best ones for addressing different questions or issues
• Ability to professionally search databases, internet resources, and catalogs to find needed information
• Ability to communicate well with library staff as well as customers
• Deep knowledge of books so as to be able to advise readers as to which good books for their reading level and interests
• Ability to present information clearly
• Strong level of customer service skills
• Ability to adapt to new tools, systems and situations as they arise for information technology is constantly evolving and shifting
• Team player

African Management Institute (ESAMI) is an intergovernmental regional
management development centre. ESAMI's head office is located in Arusha,
Tanzania.
The institute was established with the primary objective of providing the region with trained personnel in a number of critical areas including policy management, transportation management, financial management, information technology management, health management, human resources management, project management, energy and environment management and gender management among others.

It is a service and market-oriented institution offering high level specialised management training, consultancy, education programmes and action- oriented management research services. Other countries which regularly participate in ESAMI management development programmes include Lesotho, Botswana, South Africa, Angola, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Nigeria, Eritrea, Ivory Coast, Liberia, Ghana, The Gambia, Sudan, Ethiopia and Burkina Faso.
In May, 1997 the UN Economic Commission for Africa officially designated ESAMI as The African Centre of Excellence in Management Development. This recognition has necessitated ESAMI to extend its services to all countries in Africa. To meet Africa's management challenge in the new millennium ESAMI continues to provide high quality, client centred management development interventions throughout Africa. Mandate
