Job Description
Kenya Sustainable Urban Economic Development (SUED)
  • Exciting opportunity to enable inclusive growth in Kenya’s secondary towns and cities
  • 5 year programme with an estimated start date: January 2018
  • Nairobi, Kenya
The Programme
The Kenya Sustainable Urban Economic Development (SUED) programme aims to deliver economic opportunities and jobs for young people through promoting market-driven, climate-smart growth in 6-10 emerging towns, cities and growth corridors. It will do this through an integrated demand and supply-side approach to unblock the barriers to sustainable urban economic development. Specifically, it will strengthen counties’ urban economic planning capacity; facilitate public-private partnerships and investments in catalytic infrastructure projects that can unlock the economic growth potential in secondary cities. The programme aims to achieve these objectives through six components:
  • Raising of substantial investment
  • Aiding in positive changes to policies and legislations
  • Capacity building a town level
  • Creation of climate resilient jobs
  • Linking rural areas to larger markets
  • Preparing towns to become more climate resilient and ready for substantial growth
The Position
Our Project Managers will provide strong operational support to the programme. As our Project Manager you will be tasked with driving the delivery of the programme by policing the delivery of our subcontracting firms, making certain that milestones are not missed and mitigating risks. You will manage payments short term experts and subcontracting firms and also foresee any additional specialist needs or consultants that the regional projects will require, to stay on track.
The Person
Essential
  • Experience of managing similar donor funded complex programmes. Previous experience of project / programme managing an urban infrastructure / development programme is favourable
  • Proven experience of delivering large programmes on time, in scope and within budget. Without compromising on the impact of the programme
  • Ability to oversee contracts with subcontracted firms and specialists. Ensuring they deliver as agreed
  • PMP / PRINCE II certification
  • Commercially savvy and demonstrable experience of managing programme budgets
  • You will have excellent influencing skills and have the ability to consult and communicate with a wide range of stakeholders effectively, with experience of managing diverse groups of people to achieve results
  • Ability to track and measure project performance using appropriate systems, tools and techniques
  • Past experience managing programme risk
