Description RTI is seeking a Deputy Chief of Party (DCOP) for the anticipated five-year Landscape Conservation in Western Tanzania (LCWT) activity. LCWT will strengthen landscape-scale conservation in the western geographical landscape of Tanzania.The DCOP will report to the Chief of Party (COP). The DCOP will be responsible for program operations management and direction in coordination with other members of the project team. The role will support the COP to ensure program implementation is in alignment with the project goals and objectives. The position will be based in Kigoma, Tanzania. Duties and Responsibilities - Oversee management and operations of all RTI•s work on LCWT, as a subcontractor to Jane Goodall Institute. - Oversee project operations; provide leadership to develop, implement, and monitor the LCWT work plan. - Monitor project activity against the agreement and notify/advise technical leaders of significant events and potential concerns regarding the intersection of budget and technical implementation. - Interface with both USAID and other counterparts regarding the overall direction of the project in the absence of the COP. - Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with key stakeholders, including government counterparts, grantees, and other implementing partners. - Provide compliance and management oversight as well as identify, implement and coordinate risk mitigation processes to facilitate compliant, low-risk, efficient operations. - Liaise regularly with COP and senior management team on management and decision-making. - Oversee implementation of relevant technical result area. - Directly supervise and mentor project staff.
Minimum•Qualifications
Education and Experience - Masters-level degree in natural resource management, biological sciences, economic growth or other relevant discipline. At least nine (9) years of relevant professional experience including at least four (4) years• experience in management positions working with conservation related organizations. - Experience working on wildlife corridors or habitat connectivity related projects is preferred. - Experience working in Tanzania or East Africa region preferred. - Previous experience with USAID-funded programs, and fluency with USAID policies and procedures related to procurement, operations strongly preferred. - Experience with oversight or direct responsibility for monitoring, evaluation and learning (MEL) of donor-funded programming preferred. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities - Exceptional English and Swahili written and oral communication skills. - Technical expertise in one or more of the following: land use, governance for natural resources management (NRM), and/or monitoring for conservation. - Understanding of adaptive management processes and Collaborating, Learning, and Adapting (CLA) methodologies for improved decision-making and implementation.• - Excellent track record of good interpersonal, supervision, leadership, and managerial skills. - Demonstrated team player with effective cross-cultural interpersonal skills; able to develop and communicate a common vision among diverse partners and lead multidisciplinary teams. - Ability to resolve sensitive and complicated work issues with country counterparts, donor representative and senior-level staff. Reporting The DCOP will report to the LCWT Project COP on a daily basis, but ultimately, will report to RTI senior leadership in North Carolina. • Position is contingent upon award and funding.
